PROJECT OVERVIEW
ASPPB approached pixelslam to design and develop an interactive online experience to compliment the annual ASPPB InFocus publication.

Based on the publication, we developed an information architecture with multiple layers of navigation to support five key areas of information all with very different types of content to be displayed. Using the Gutenberg block editor, we were able to create flexible yet consistent pages allowing the client to update data each year or as it became available. We also installed and configured a charts and graphs plugin that will allow the client to import data via Excel files and manage the data without a lot of manual rework.

With the ASPPB color palette as a guide, we developed a system of color usage for way-finding throughout the site and to allow users to recognize site areas and information easily. Navigation colors for hover and active states allow for easier navigation as well. The imagery other than data/infographics was minimal. However, carefully selected images for the home page and site headers convey the Centre’s focus on data and analysis.

In order to avoid overly crowded navigation, we included a fly-out/slide-out panel for the utility items and included a marketing space in the panel where users can download the publication from any page. We also included a dropdown select on Snapshot pages rather than attempting to include all regions and states in the main navigation.
